Ingredient overview

What is Argan Oil?

Argan oil is pressed from kernels of Argania spinosa and contains a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids along with tocopherols, sterols and other minor compounds. It is used in both skincare and hair care for emollience, softness and moisture retention.

Small human studies have reported improvements in skin elasticity and hydration with topical argan-oil use, but results from pure oil or specialized delivery systems do not predict every cosmetic formula. For hair, argan oil is primarily a conditioning lipid rather than a treatment that repairs living follicles.

Routine guidance

How to use it

Argan-oil skincare is usually applied toward the end of a routine, while hair oils and treatments should be used according to the product directions and hair texture.

Pairing guidance

Routine compatibility

Argan oil can be combined with squalane, ceramides, shea butter and most skin or hair actives when extra emollience is useful.

Formula context matters

Good to know

Oils can feel heavy on some acne-prone skin or fine hair. Clinical studies of pure argan oil should not be generalized to every low-concentration product.
