Ingredient overview

What is Bentonite?

Bentonite is an absorbent clay, commonly rich in montmorillonite, that swells in water and is used in masks and other topical formulations. Its high surface area and adsorption properties make it useful for oil, fluid and formulation management.

Research on bentonite and montmorillonite includes barrier, adsorption and dermatologic applications, but cosmetic clay masks should not be presented as detoxifying the body or pulling systemic toxins from skin. Their practical beauty role is mainly surface oil absorption and formulation support.
