Ingredient overview

What is Bifida Ferment?

Bifida ferment ingredients in cosmetics are usually non-living fermentation products or lysates, such as Bifida Ferment Lysate, rather than live probiotic bacteria. These materials contain microbial components and metabolites that are investigated as postbiotic-style ingredients for barrier and skin-conditioning support.

Reviews of topical probiotics and postbiotics describe promising effects on barrier function, hydration and skin homeostasis, but benefits are strain- and preparation-specific. A generic 'bifida' label does not establish that one cosmetic has the same activity as a clinically studied lysate.
