Mugwort, or Artemisia, is used in Korean skincare for soothing and skin-conditioning support.

Ingredient overview

What is Mugwort?

Mugwort is a common name for several Artemisia species used in East Asian skincare, including Artemisia princeps, vulgaris and annua. Extracts contain diverse flavonoids, phenolic compounds and aromatic components, so two products labelled mugwort may not use chemically identical ingredients.

Preclinical studies on Artemisia extracts support antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and barrier-related activity, including work with A. princeps in keratinocytes and dermatitis models. Human cosmetic evidence is thinner, so mugwort is best positioned as a soothing botanical rather than a proven medical treatment.
