Ingredient overview

What is Ceramides?

Ceramides are lipids naturally found in the outer layer of skin, where they help form the barrier that limits water loss and helps protect against external stress.

Cosmetic ceramides are especially useful in moisturizers and recovery-focused formulas. They are often paired with cholesterol and fatty acids because healthy barrier lipids work as a system rather than as isolated ingredients.

How to use it

Use it in the step directed by the finished product, usually a moisturizer, serum or treatment. Barrier-support ingredients generally fit morning or evening routines and work best when the routine also avoids unnecessary over-exfoliation.

Pairing guidance

Routine compatibility

Generally compatible with humectants, soothing ingredients, niacinamide and most treatment routines. Barrier-support ingredients are often especially useful alongside exfoliants or retinoids when the total routine remains well tolerated.

Good to know

Suitability still depends on the full formula. Even a product built around barrier ingredients can contain fragrance, exfoliants or other components that may not suit every skin type.
