Ingredient overview

What is Shea Butter?

Shea butter is a plant-derived emollient rich in triglycerides and fatty acids. In skincare it is used to soften the skin surface, reduce moisture loss and give body to richer creams and balms.

It is especially common in products for dry skin, body care and barrier-focused routines. Shea butter can feel nourishing and protective, but its sensory weight depends on concentration and the rest of the emulsion rather than on the ingredient name alone.

Good to know

Richer shea-butter formulas may feel too heavy for some oily or congestion-prone users; assess the finished product rather than the ingredient alone.
