Ingredient overview

What is Amino Acids / NMF?

Free amino acids are an important part of the skin's natural moisturizing factor, a mixture of water-soluble compounds inside corneocytes that helps the stratum corneum attract and retain water. Skincare formulas may use individual amino acids or blends designed to mimic parts of this natural system.

Ingredients such as arginine, serine, glycine and alanine can contribute to hydration and skin conditioning, but a long amino-acid list does not automatically make a formula superior. Their practical role is usually supportive and depends on the surrounding humectants, lipids and product format.
