Ingredient overview

What is Alpha-Arbutin?

Alpha-arbutin is the alpha anomer of arbutin, a glucose-linked hydroquinone derivative used in cosmetic brightening products. It is designed to help reduce melanin production by influencing tyrosinase activity without being the same ingredient as free hydroquinone.

Alpha-arbutin is generally positioned for uneven tone, dark spots and post-blemish marks. Its performance depends on concentration, formulation stability and consistent sun protection, and it is often combined with other pigment-focused ingredients rather than used alone.
